What this converter does

This turns a number of months into weeks. Because months vary in length, it uses an average month, so the result is a practical estimate. It is handy when you plan in months but track in weeks, or want to check a month figure against a weekly count. Enter the months and the weeks come straight back.

How to use it

  1. Enter Months. Type the number of months.

Press Calculate and the equivalent in weeks appears.

A month is more than four weeks

It is tempting to call a month 4 weeks, but that comes up short. Four weeks is just 28 days, the length of February in a common year, while an average month is a little over 30 days. So a month is really about 4.35 weeks, and that is the figure this tool multiplies by. The extra third of a week each month adds up: it is the reason twelve months make about 52 weeks rather than the 48 you would get from four weeks apiece.

Why it is an estimate

Real months are 28 to 31 days, so the 4.35 weeks is an average rather than the exact length of any particular month, and a specific span can come out a little different. For a feel of how many weeks a number of months covers, it is fine. For an exact count between two real dates, a date-to-date tool that follows the calendar is the better choice.

An example

Take 1 month. Multiply by 4.35 and you get about 4.35 weeks. Three months is roughly 13 weeks, and 9 months comes to about 39 weeks. That 9-month figure is worth noting next to pregnancy, which runs about 40 weeks, a little past nine average months.

Questions people ask

How many weeks are in a month?

About 4.35 on average, not a flat 4, since an average month is a little over 30 days rather than 28. So to convert months to weeks you multiply by about 4.35.

Isn't a month 4 weeks?

Not quite. Four weeks is only 28 days, while an average month is over 30, so a month is closer to 4.35 weeks.

Is the result exact?

No, it is an estimate based on an average month. For an exact figure, use a date-to-date tool that counts the real calendar.

How do I go from weeks back to months?

Divide the weeks by about 4.35, or use a weeks-to-months converter, which uses the same average.
