What this converter does

This turns a number of months into days. Since months are not all the same length, it uses an average month, so the result is a practical estimate for getting a feel for a span rather than an exact calendar count. Enter the months and the days come straight back.

How to use it

  1. Enter Months. Type the number of months.

Press Calculate and the equivalent in days appears.

The average month it uses

The conversion multiplies by about 30.42, the length of an average month in days. That figure comes from splitting a 365-day year into 12 equal parts, which gives roughly 30.42 days each. It sits between the short months and the long ones, so it works as a single typical value. So one month is treated as about 30.42 days, two months as about 60.83, and so on.

Why this is rough, not exact

Real months run from 28 days to 31, so no actual month is exactly 30.42 days, and a particular run of months can come out a little different. For a sense of how many days a number of months covers, the average is fine. But if you need the exact day count between two real dates, a date-to-date tool that follows the actual calendar is the right one, since it knows the true length of each month in the span.

An example

Take 3 months. Multiply by 30.42 and you get about 91 days, which is why a quarter of a year is often rounded to 90 days. One month is about 30.4 days, and 6 months is roughly 183, close to half a year.

Questions people ask

How many days are in a month?

About 30.42 on average, from a 365-day year divided by 12. Real months vary from 28 days to 31.

How many days is 3 months?

About 91 days using the average, which is why three months is often treated as roughly 90 days.

Is the result exact?

No, it is an estimate based on an average month. For an exact figure, use a date-to-date tool that counts the real calendar.

How do I go from days back to months?

Divide the days by about 30.42, or use a days-to-months converter, which uses the same average.
