What this converter does

This turns a number of days into minutes. It is a big jump, from a calendar unit down to a small clock one, so a day becomes well over a thousand minutes. Enter the days and the minutes come straight back.

How to use it

  1. Enter Days. Type the number of days.

Press Calculate and the equivalent in minutes appears.

Where the 1,440 comes from

A day is 24 hours, and each hour is 60 minutes, so a day holds 24 times 60, which is 1,440 minutes. To convert days to minutes you multiply by 1,440. That makes 1 day 1,440 minutes, 2 days 2,880, and half a day 720. The 1,440 is just 24 and 60 multiplied together, and the result is exact.

When days into minutes is useful

This comes up when you need a day-length span in the finer unit a system or calculation works in. Some schedulers and tools count in minutes, and putting everything on the same minute footing makes spans easy to add or compare. It is also a quick way to see just how many minutes a day really contains, which surprises people: a single day is 1,440 minutes, so even a few days runs to several thousand.

An example

Take 1 day. Multiply by 1,440 and you have 1,440 minutes. Two days is 2,880, and a week, 7 days, is 10,080 minutes. The figures climb quickly because a minute is a small slice of a day.
