What this tool does
This tool turns any plain text into a QR code. Type your words, and it encodes them into a code that, when scanned, simply shows that text on the phone. You can size it, colour it, set how robust it is, and download a PNG or SVG. It is the tool for sharing words rather than a link.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the box.
- Choose a size, an error correction level, and the colours if you want.
- Pick PNG or SVG, create the code, and download it.
How it works
The tool writes your text straight into the QR pattern, in your browser, and draws the finished code. The text lives inside the code itself, so when someone scans it, their phone reads out exactly what you typed. Nothing is uploaded, and the code does not depend on any server to keep working.
What a text QR code is for
It helps to be clear on how this differs from a website code, because the behaviour is different. A URL code opens a web page; a text code just displays text. Scanning it does not take anyone anywhere or trigger an action, it simply shows the words, which the phone usually lets you copy. So this is the right choice when the text itself is the message: a short note or instruction, a serial or reference number, a product code, a line of label or menu information, a password written out for someone to read, or a brief message you want on a sticker or a sign.
One practical limit is worth knowing. A QR code can only hold so much before it becomes dense and fiddly to scan, and text takes up room. A sentence or two is comfortable; a wall of text makes a busy code that phones struggle with, especially when printed small. Keep it concise and it scans cleanly. If your aim is actually to send people to a page, the URL QR Code Generator is the one for that.
A word on error correction
Since this tool lets you choose the error correction level, here is what it means. QR codes build in redundancy so they still scan when part of the code is dirty, damaged, or obscured, and the level sets how much of that cushion there is. The four levels recover roughly 7% (L), 15% (M), 25% (Q), and 30% (H) of the code. Higher levels survive more damage but pack more dots into the same space, making the code denser. For something printed and handled in the real world, a higher level like Q or H is the safer pick; for a clean digital code that will never be marked, a lower level keeps things simple.
Questions people ask
What happens when someone scans it?
Their phone shows the text you encoded, and usually offers to copy it. Unlike a website code, it does not open anything or perform an action; the words themselves are the content.
How much text can it hold?
Enough for a short message, but not a long document. The more text you add, the denser and harder to scan the code becomes, so a sentence or two works best, especially in print.
What should I set the error correction to?
For printed codes that will be handled, choose a higher level like Q or H so the code survives smudges and scratches. For a clean on-screen code, a lower level is fine and keeps the pattern simpler.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The code is generated entirely in your browser, so your text stays on your device.
