What this tool does

This tool makes a QR code that holds your Skype ID, so someone can scan it to pick up your username and add you, rather than spelling it out. Enter your Skype ID, set the size and colours, and download a PNG or SVG. Before you do, please read the note further down about Skype's current status.

How to use it

  1. Enter your Skype ID.
  2. Set the size and colours if you want.
  3. Choose PNG or SVG, create the code, and download it.

How it works

The tool encodes your Skype ID into the QR pattern, in your browser, so that scanning the code reveals your username for someone to add. It is a static code, generated entirely on your device with nothing uploaded, and it uses a high level of error correction so it stays readable even if a little scuffed.

An important note about Skype

In fairness, this needs saying plainly. Microsoft retired Skype in May 2025, ending it as a consumer service after more than two decades, and moved users over to Microsoft Teams Free. That means a Skype ID generally no longer connects to an active, reachable service the way it once did, and a code pointing to one is unlikely to help you reach anyone on Skype today.

So while the tool will happily make the code, we would not want you to print it expecting it to work as a way to be contacted. If your aim is to let people reach you with a scan, a live alternative is the better choice: the Phone QR Code Generator sets up a call, the WhatsApp QR Code Generator opens a chat, and for video meetings the Zoom and Google Meet generators link to a room. We have kept this tool here for completeness, but those are where we would point you now.

Questions people ask

Does Skype still work?

No, not as it used to. Microsoft retired Skype as a consumer service in May 2025 and moved people to Microsoft Teams Free, so a Skype ID generally no longer reaches an active service.

What should I use instead?

For being contacted by a scan, try a phone, WhatsApp, or a meeting link instead. The Phone, WhatsApp, Zoom, and Google Meet generators all create codes that work today.

What does the code actually contain?

Your Skype ID as text. Scanning it shows the username, which someone would then add in Skype, subject to the retirement note above.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The code is generated entirely in your browser, so your details stay on your device.
