What this tool does

This tool makes a SEPA payment QR code, also called an EPC code or GiroCode, the kind European banking apps can scan to set up a bank transfer to you. The payer scans, their app fills in the details, and they confirm. Enter the receiver name, IBAN, and amount, set the size and colours, and download a PNG or SVG for invoices and bills.

How to use it

  1. Enter the receiver's name and IBAN (the essentials), plus the BIC, amount in EUR, and a reference if you want.
  2. Set the size and colours.
  3. Choose PNG or SVG, create the code, and download it.

How it works

The tool assembles your details into the standard EPC QR format defined by the European Payments Council, and encodes it in your browser. When someone scans it with a banking app that supports the standard, the app pre-fills a SEPA credit transfer with your name, IBAN, amount, and reference, and they review and confirm it. That is the real value: no copying a long IBAN by hand, and no typos in the reference. The code is static and self-contained, with nothing uploaded.

Where it works, and what to check

This is a genuine "scan to pay" code, but within a defined world, so it helps to know its edges. It works with banking apps that support the EPC standard across the SEPA area, which is very widely supported in countries like Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Finland, where scanning a bill to pay is everyday. Outside the SEPA zone, or in an app that does not support it, the code will not pre-fill a transfer. Payments are in euros, and the BIC is optional for accounts within the European Economic Area, generally only needed for some outside it.

Two honest points, as with any payment tool. The code pre-fills the transfer but does not send it; the payer always reviews the details and confirms in their app, which is exactly as it should be. And check your IBAN carefully before printing, since the whole point is to carry it accurately, and an error would carry the mistake just as faithfully. It is well suited to euro invoices, where it is increasingly expected, as well as bills, donations, rent, and subscriptions. To simply share account details for manual entry instead, the Bank Account QR Code Generator does that, and for a payment link there is the Payment QR Code Generator.

Questions people ask

Which apps can read it?

Banking apps that support the EPC standard across the SEPA area, which is very common in much of Europe. Outside the SEPA zone, or in an unsupported app, it will not pre-fill a transfer.

Does it send the money automatically?

No. It pre-fills the transfer in the payer's banking app, and they review the details and confirm it themselves. The code prepares the payment; the payer completes it.

Do I need a BIC?

Usually not for accounts within the European Economic Area, where the IBAN is enough. A BIC is generally only needed for some accounts outside it. The IBAN and receiver name are the essentials.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The code is generated entirely in your browser, so your bank details stay on your device.
