What this tool does

This tool makes a QR code that opens a new text message to your number when scanned, with an optional message already typed in. The person just hits send. Set the size and colours, and download a PNG or SVG. It is the quick way to let people text you, or to kick off a text-in campaign.

How to use it

  1. Enter the contact number the text should go to.
  2. Optionally add a message to pre-fill, then set the size and colours.
  3. Choose PNG or SVG, create the code, and download it.

How it works

The tool encodes your number and message as a standard SMS link in the QR pattern, in your browser. When someone scans it, their phone opens a new text addressed to you, with your pre-set message already in the box, ready for them to send or edit. The code is static and self-contained, with nothing uploaded.

What it is good for

The pre-filled message is what makes this more than a "text us" shortcut, because it powers text-in campaigns. Set the message to a keyword, and a sign reading "Scan to text JOIN for 10% off" turns into a one-tap opt-in: the person scans, a text saying JOIN to your number is ready, and they send it. The same trick works for feedback ("Scan to text us your thoughts"), entering a contest, requesting a callback, or capturing a lead, anywhere a quick text is easier than filling in a form. It is especially handy because texting feels lighter and more immediate to most people than email.

The honest note is the same as for the other contact codes: it opens a ready-to-send text, but the person sends it themselves, and they can edit the message first. Include the country code in the number so it works for everyone who scans. For a plain call instead, the Phone QR Code Generator sets that up, the WhatsApp generator opens a chat there, and the Email generator drafts an email.

Questions people ask

Does it send the text automatically?

No. It opens a new text to your number with the message filled in, and the person taps send. They can also edit the message before sending, so they stay in control.

Can I pre-fill a keyword for an opt-in?

Yes, and that is the strength of an SMS code. Set the message to a keyword like JOIN, and scanning prepares that text to your number, making text-in campaigns a single tap.

Should I include the country code?

Yes. Add the country code to the number so the text addresses correctly for anyone scanning, including people from other regions.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The code is generated entirely in your browser, so your number and message stay on your device.
