What this does

So you have a small amount in teaspoons, a measure of extract or flavouring, and you want it in millilitres. This converter gives you that. Enter the teaspoons and it returns the millilitres or litres. It takes tablespoons too, so either spoon works.

How to use it

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Pick the spoon type, US or Imperial teaspoons, or tablespoons.
  3. Choose millilitres or litres, then press Calculate.

No ingredient needed, since teaspoons and millilitres both measure volume.

How the conversion works

It is your teaspoons multiplied by the size of one teaspoon:

millilitres = teaspoons × ml per teaspoon

A teaspoon is 5 millilitres, so 1 teaspoon is 5 millilitres and 3 teaspoons is 15 millilitres, which is also 1 tablespoon. Clean numbers, which is why teaspoons and millilitres get on so well.

Good to know

The teaspoon used here is 5 millilitres, the standard metric teaspoon, which keeps the maths tidy. Three teaspoons make a tablespoon, so 15 millilitres is the link point between the two.

Imperial teaspoons are a little larger, so choosing Imperial nudges the result up for the same number of spoons. Most modern recipes mean the standard teaspoon.

Questions people ask

How many millilitres is a teaspoon?

Five millilitres for a standard teaspoon. So 2 teaspoons is 10 millilitres.

How many millilitres is 3 teaspoons?

Fifteen millilitres, which is also one tablespoon. That is the neat overlap between the two spoons.

Can I enter tablespoons?

Yes. The spoon dropdown includes tablespoons, so you can convert those to millilitres too.
