What this does
So you have a small amount in millilitres, off a bottle of syrup or a splash of sauce, and you want it in tablespoons. This converter handles it. Enter the millilitres and it gives you the tablespoons. It can give teaspoons too, and it covers both US and Imperial spoons, since those are not the same size.
How to use it
- Enter the amount, and choose millilitres or litres.
- Pick the spoon you want, US or Imperial tablespoons, or teaspoons.
- Press Calculate.
No ingredient needed, since millilitres and tablespoons both measure volume.
How the conversion works
It is your millilitres divided by the size of one spoon:
tablespoons = millilitres ÷ millilitres per tablespoon
A US tablespoon is about 14.8 millilitres, so 15 millilitres is just over 1 tablespoon, and 30 millilitres is about 2. Switch the output to teaspoons and the same amount gives roughly three times as many, since 3 teaspoons make a tablespoon.
Good to know
A metric tablespoon is defined as exactly 15 millilitres, while the US tablespoon the tool uses is a touch smaller at about 14.8 millilitres. That is why 15 millilitres comes out as just over 1 US tablespoon rather than a flat 1. The gap is tiny, but it explains the stray decimal.
Imperial spoons are larger than US spoons, so switching to Imperial lowers the count for the same millilitres. Most modern recipes mean US spoons.
Questions people ask
How many tablespoons is 15 ml?
Just over 1 US tablespoon, since the US tablespoon is about 14.8 millilitres. On the metric tablespoon of 15 millilitres, it is exactly 1.
How many tablespoons is 30 ml?
About 2 US tablespoons. Handy for sauces and syrups that come in small amounts.
How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?
Three. So switching the output to teaspoons roughly triples the figure.
