Ounces to Grams Converter

What this does

So you have a weight in ounces and you need it in grams, maybe to follow a metric recipe, read a nutrition label, or weigh a parcel. This converter handles it. Type in the ounces, press Calculate, and you have the grams. No ingredient to choose here, and that is the nice part, which I will explain in a moment.

How the conversion works

Ounces and grams both measure weight, so there is no density and no ingredient involved. It is a single fixed multiplication. One ounce is exactly 28.3495 grams by international agreement, so:

grams = ounces × 28.3495

So 4 ounces is 4 × 28.3495, which is about 113.4 grams, and 16 ounces comes to 453.6 grams, which is exactly one pound. Clean and the same every time.

Good to know

This is the avoirdupois ounce, the everyday one used for food, postage, and groceries. There is another ounce, the troy ounce, which is heavier at about 31.1 grams and is used only for precious metals like gold and silver. So do not use this tool for bullion.

Worth repeating the classic mix up too: a weight ounce is not the same as a fluid ounce. A fluid ounce measures volume, not weight, so it does not belong in an ounces to grams conversion unless you happen to be weighing water.
