What this does

So you have got a pairing you love, two characters, two friends, an original couple you are writing, and you want a little scenario to spark something. Put a name in for Person A and Person B, tap Generate, and it gives you a random prompt with their names dropped in. Most of them are cosy, sweet, slice of life moments, the kind of thing fanfic writers and roleplayers use to get ideas flowing.

How to use it

  1. Type a name for Person A and a name for Person B.
  2. Tap Generate.
  3. Read your prompt, with both names already filled in. Tap again for a different one, or Reset to clear the names.

The names can be anyone, real, fictional, or made up for a story you are writing.

How it works

The tool holds a big collection of two person scenario prompts, each with two blanks in it. When you tap Generate, your browser's random generator, Math.random, picks one, and it swaps the blanks for the names you entered. It all runs on your device, and the names you type are not sent anywhere.

The usual note, Math.random is pseudo random, which is all a prompt picker needs.

What does OTP mean

If the name threw you, OTP stands for One True Pairing. It is a fandom term for the couple you are most attached to, the two characters you love seeing together, whether they are canon or not. Shipping, as it is called, is a big part of fan communities, and people write stories, draw art, and roleplay around their favourite pairings. An OTP prompt is just a little story seed for that pairing, a moment to write or act out. This tool gives you one at random, with your two names already in place.

Where it helps

Fanfic writers use it to beat a blank page, pulling a prompt when they want to write a quick scene but do not know where to start. Roleplayers use it to set up a situation with a partner. Artists use the prompts as ideas for a drawing. And plenty of people just generate them for fun, to see their favourite pairing dropped into a cute situation.

Questions people ask

What does OTP stand for?

One True Pairing, a fandom term for the couple you love most. An OTP prompt is a short scenario for that pairing to spark a story, a drawing, or some roleplay.

Can I use any names?

Yes. Real people, fictional characters, or names you made up for a story, whatever your pairing is.

Are the prompts suitable for everyone?

Most are cosy, slice of life moments. A handful are a little more romantic or cheeky, but none are graphic.

Are the names I type saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser, and the names you enter are not sent or stored anywhere.
