What this tool does

This tool combines several text files into one. Add your TXT files, drag them into the order you want, and it joins them into a single text file you can download. It is the plain-text counterpart to merging PDFs, and like that, it works entirely in your browser with nothing uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Add your TXT files by dropping them on the drop zone or clicking to select. You can add several at once.
  2. Drag the files in the list to set the order, and remove any you do not want.
  3. Press Merge, then download the combined file. Reset clears everything.

How it works

The tool reads the contents of each text file and joins them together in the order you arranged, placing a blank line between one file's text and the next so they do not run together. The result is a single plain-text file. It all happens on your device, so your files are never sent anywhere.

When it comes in handy

Combining text files is one of those small jobs that crops up more often than you would think. Stitching together a set of log files to read or search them as one, joining chapters or sections of writing that were drafted separately, gathering exported data files into a single dataset, or pulling together notes and chat exports, all of these go faster when you are not opening and copy-pasting file after file. Because the order is yours to set by dragging, you can arrange the pieces exactly as they should read before merging. For combining PDFs instead, the PDF Merger does that job, and to bundle files of any type into a single archive there is the Zip Creator.

Questions people ask

What files can I merge?

Plain text files, the .txt kind. You can add several at once and combine them all into one.

How are the files separated in the result?

The tool places a blank line between the contents of one file and the next, so the joined text stays readable rather than running together.

Can I set the order?

Yes. Drag the files in the list before merging, and the combined file follows that order. You can also remove any you do not want included.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The merge happens entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
