What this tool does

This tool turns the pages of a PDF into images. Give it a PDF and it renders each page as a high-quality PNG you can download, one per page, doing all the work in your browser so the file never leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Select your PDF file.
  2. Press Convert, and the tool renders each page as an image.
  3. Download each page from the links that appear. Reset clears the tool for another file.

How it works

The tool draws each page of your PDF onto a canvas at a higher resolution than the screen would normally need, then saves that as a PNG image. Rendering at that larger scale keeps the result crisp rather than fuzzy. It all happens on your device, so your PDF is never uploaded.

What it is good for

Turning a page into an image opens up things a PDF cannot do directly. You can drop a page straight into a slide deck or a document, post it to social media, attach it in a chat that does not accept PDFs, or pull out a single chart or diagram as a picture. One thing to keep in mind is that an image is just that, a picture, so the text on it is no longer selectable or searchable, which is exactly what you want for sharing a page as a visual but not if you need the words back. For that, the PDF to Text tool extracts the text instead, and to build a PDF from images in the first place there is Image to PDF.

Questions people ask

What format are the images?

PNG, a high-quality format that handles text and sharp lines well, which suits document pages. You get one PNG per page of the PDF.

How good is the image quality?

The pages are rendered at a higher resolution than the screen needs, so they come out sharp and clear rather than blurry, which holds up well when placed in a slide or document.

Will the text in the images be selectable?

No. Once a page is an image, its text is part of the picture and can no longer be selected or searched. If you need the text itself, use the PDF to Text tool.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The rendering happens entirely in your browser, so the file stays on your device throughout.
