What this does

How it works
A dog's pregnancy lasts about 63 days, roughly nine weeks, so the tool counts that forward from the mating date:
due date = mating date + 63 days
Because no two pregnancies land on the exact same day, it also shows a window on either side of that date, so you know when to be ready rather than fixed on a single day. It all runs on your device.
Why the date is a window, not a promise
Here is the honest part. The mating date is not always the day your dog actually conceives. A female can mate a few days before she ovulates, and sperm can survive and wait, so the true length from mating to birth varies, commonly anywhere from about 58 to 68 days. That is why the result is a window rather than a fixed appointment. For a tighter date, your vet can time things from ovulation using a progesterone blood test, or confirm and date the pregnancy with an ultrasound around four weeks in. Use this estimate to plan and prepare, and lean on your vet for the precise picture.
Preparing for the big day
As the window approaches, set up a quiet, warm whelping area and let your dog get comfortable with it. Watch for the signs that labour is near, such as nesting, restlessness, and going off her food, and many owners track temperature, since a noticeable drop often comes about a day before labour starts. Keep your vet's number and an out of hours number to hand. And know the line in the sand, if your dog reaches around day 65 from mating with no signs of labour, or if anything seems wrong along the way, call your vet promptly.
