What this does

So you are feeding a group and the eternal question lands: how many pizzas do we actually order? This calculator answers it. Tell it how many adults and children you have, how hungry everyone is, and your crust style, and it gives you pizza counts across small, medium, large, and extra large, so you can pick the size that suits and order with confidence.

How to use it

  1. Enter the number of adults and children.
  2. Pick a hunger level, from not very to starving.
  3. Choose your crust, traditional or thin, then press Calculate.

You get a count for each pizza size, so you can match it to what your local place sells.

The slice rule

Pizza planning comes down to slices. A good starting point is about three slices for a hungry adult and two for a child, with a typical pizza cut into around eight slices. So the core sum is:

pizzas = total slices ÷ slices per pizza

For ten hungry adults, that is about 30 slices, which comes to roughly four standard pizzas. The tool then translates that into each size, since a small pizza has fewer slices than a large, so you need more smalls or fewer extra larges to feed the same crowd.

Ordering tips

Always round up rather than down. Pizza keeps beautifully, so a spare box means happy leftovers, while coming up short means someone goes hungry. If your crowd skews toward big eaters or it is the main event rather than a snack, nudge the hunger level up. Thin crust tends to disappear a little faster than a hearty traditional base, so bear that in mind. And when the prices are in front of you, larger pizzas are usually cheaper per slice, so if the sizes work out close, the bigger pie often wins on value.

Questions people ask

How many slices does a person eat?

Roughly two to three for an adult and one to two for a child, depending on appetite and what else is being served.

How many slices are in a pizza?

A medium is usually cut into about eight slices. Smaller pizzas have fewer, larger ones more, which is why the count changes by size.

Is it better to order big or small pizzas?

Larger pizzas are usually better value per slice, so if the totals land close, the bigger size tends to be the smarter order.
