What this tool does
You have seen a colour in an image, a photo, a screenshot, a logo, and you want that exact colour to use elsewhere. Guessing its code by eye is hopeless, since a small difference in a shade is easy to miss and hard to reproduce. What you want is to point at the colour in the picture and be told precisely what it is.
That is what this does. You upload an image and click a point on it, and the tool reads the colour at that spot and gives you its code, ready to copy. It works like an eyedropper, letting you lift a colour straight out of a picture so you can reuse the very colour you saw rather than an approximation of it.

How it works
The tool draws your uploaded image onto a canvas, which lets it read the colour of any individual pixel. When you click a point, it finds the pixel under your cursor and reads that pixel's red, green, and blue values, then reports them as a colour code. The colour you get is exactly what is stored at that spot in the image.
Because it reads the real pixel rather than estimating, the result is precise for wherever you clicked. There is no interpretation involved; the tool simply looks up the stored colour at that point and writes it out in the usual formats. That is what makes it a faithful eyedropper: what you click is what you get.
What you get back
What the tool returns is the exact colour of the pixel you clicked, given in the common formats. You get a hex code for the web, RGB values for code, and usually the other formats too, so whatever you need the colour for, it is ready to copy without further conversion.
It is worth remembering that this is the colour of one precise point, not a general impression of the area. If you click a spot that looks like a solid patch of colour, you get that colour cleanly. If you click somewhere with fine texture or a gradient, you get whatever that particular pixel happens to be, which may differ slightly from a neighbour. The code is always accurate to the exact point you chose.
A single point, not the whole image
This tool answers a narrow, precise question: what colour is at this exact spot. That is different from asking what the main colours of the whole image are. Here you choose one point and get one colour, the pixel under your click, which is what you want when you have a specific colour in the picture in mind.
If instead you want the overall palette of an image, the handful of colours that define its look, that is a different job, better suited to a colour extractor that scans the whole picture and picks out its dominant colours. This picker is for lifting one chosen colour with precision, while an extractor is for summarising many. Knowing which you need saves you clicking around trying to make one tool do the other's work.
Why pick a colour from an image
The most common reason is matching. You want a design to use the same blue as a photo, the exact green from a brand's logo, or a colour you spotted in a screenshot, and picking it from the image gives you that colour precisely. It saves you eyeballing a code and hoping it is close enough.
It is useful across a lot of work. Designers lift colours from reference images to build palettes that match a mood, developers grab exact colours from mockups, and anyone rebuilding or matching a colour scheme can pull the real values straight from a picture. Whenever the colour you need already exists in an image, picking it is far more reliable than trying to recreate it by eye.
Getting an accurate pick
For a clean result, click on a solid, evenly coloured part of the image rather than an edge or a busy, textured area. Edges often blend two colours together, and textured regions vary pixel to pixel, so a click there can give a colour that is not quite the one you meant. A flat patch gives the truest reading.
It also helps to know that heavily compressed images, such as small JPEGs, can carry faint colour artefacts, tiny shifts around edges and in flat areas that were not in the original. If a picked colour looks slightly off, try clicking a few nearby points to see whether they agree, and pick from the cleanest spot. For logos and graphics, a crisp source image gives far more dependable colours than a blurry or over-compressed one.
