What this does

Text picks up stray spaces all the time, a double tap of the space bar here, a gap pasted in from somewhere there. This tidies them. You choose whether to squash the extra spaces down to single ones or strip every space out altogether, and the cleaned text appears ready to copy. Two jobs, one box.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the box on the left.
  2. Pick one of the two options below the box, depending on what you want done.
  3. Press Remove, then Copy to take the result, or Clear to start over.

It runs in your browser, so your text stays on your own device throughout.

The two options explained

The first option, which is selected by default, collapses runs of spaces into one. Wherever two or more spaces sit in a row, they become a single space, while the normal single spaces between your words are left alone. So too   many  gaps becomes too many gaps. This is the everyday fix for text that has picked up uneven spacing, and it keeps your words readable.

The second option removes every space, full stop. Nothing is left between the words, so hello there friend becomes hellotherefriend. This is the one to reach for when you need an unbroken string with no gaps at all, like squeezing the spaces out of a value or a code. Pick the first to tidy, the second to fuse.

What it acts on

It is worth knowing that this works on the ordinary space character, the one your space bar makes. Line breaks are not affected, so if your text runs across several lines, those lines stay separate even when you remove all the spaces within them. That is usually what you want, since it lets you close up the spacing without flattening your text into a single line. If joining lines together is the goal, that is a different job, handled by the line break tool.

Questions people ask

Will it remove the normal single spaces between words?

Only if you choose the second option. The first option keeps your single spaces and just collapses the runs of two or more down to one.

Does removing all spaces also join my lines together?

No. It clears the spaces within each line but leaves the line breaks in place, so your text keeps its separate lines.

Which option runs if I do not pick one?

The first one, collapsing multiple spaces into a single space, is selected by default. Switch to the second only when you want every space gone.

Is this good for fixing double spaces after full stops?

Yes, that is a perfect use for the first option. It turns those double gaps back into single spaces across the whole text in one pass.
