What this does
When a piece of text is full of gaps, with blank lines scattered between the content, this closes them all up. It strips out the empty lines and pulls the remaining lines together into one tight block, with no holes in between. Paste the gappy text, click, and what comes back is clean and compact.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the box on the left.
- Press Empty, and the gap-free version appears on the right.
- Hit Copy to take the result, or Clear to reset.
The tidying is done locally in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
What counts as an empty line
The tool removes any line that has no real content on it. That obviously includes the truly blank lines, but it also catches the sneaky ones that look empty but actually hold a few spaces or a tab. Those invisible lines are pulled out too, which is handy, because a line with a stray space on it is the kind of thing that trips up other tools while looking like nothing at all. When it is done, every line that remains has something on it, and they all sit one after another with no gaps.
When you would want this
This is the tool for tightening up a list or a block of data that has gone gappy. Maybe you pasted a list and every item came with a blank line under it, or you exported some text and it arrived double spaced down the page. Closing the gaps makes it compact and easy to scan or to feed into something else. Do note that this strips every blank line, including the ones between paragraphs, so it is built for tightening lists and data rather than gently tidying an article. If you would rather keep a single gap between your paragraphs, the whitespace remover is the softer choice.
Questions people ask
Does it catch lines that only contain spaces?
Yes. Lines that look empty but hold spaces or a tab are removed along with the truly blank ones, so no hidden gaps are left behind.
Will it keep any gaps between paragraphs?
No, it removes every blank line without exception. For text where you want to preserve a single gap between paragraphs, use the whitespace remover instead.
Does it change the lines that have text on them?
No. The content lines are left exactly as they are, including the spacing within them. Only the empty lines between them are taken out.
Is this good for cleaning up a double spaced list?
Very much so. It pulls out the blank line under each item and leaves you with a single, tightly packed list.
