What this tool does

When a link to your page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, or X, the preview card with a title, description, and image is built from Open Graph tags in your page's code. This tool generates those tags from a short form, so you decide how your links look when people post them, instead of leaving the platform to guess.

How to use it

  1. Enter the Title and Description you want on the card, your Site Name, and the page's Site URL.
  2. Pick a Type (website for most pages, article for blog posts), and paste an Image URL for the preview picture.
  3. Press Generate, then Copy to Clipboard and paste the tags into the <head> section of your page's HTML.

How it works

The tool wraps each field in its matching Open Graph tag and stacks them into one block. You get the six core tags: og:title, og:description, og:site_name, og:url, og:type, and og:image. When someone shares your link, the platform's crawler reads these from your page and renders the preview card from them.

Getting your previews right

First, an honest point about what these tags do. They control how your link looks on social platforms; they are not a Google ranking signal, since Google reads its own title and meta description instead. The payoff is indirect but real: a clean, eye-catching preview earns noticeably more clicks, and that traffic and engagement is something Google does notice over time.

The og:image is where most of the impact sits, because the picture is what stops the scroll. Make it 1200 by 630 pixels, the size that renders well across Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and X, and give it an absolute URL starting with https://, since relative paths do not work for social crawlers. A handy bonus: X (Twitter) falls back to these Open Graph tags when it cannot find its own, so this one block covers most platforms, though for finer control on X the Twitter Card generator adds its tags. After publishing, preview and refresh your link with Facebook's Sharing Debugger, because platforms cache the old preview for a day or more. For the rest of your page's <head>, the meta tag generator handles the search tags and the schema generator handles structured data.

Questions people ask

Do Open Graph tags help my SEO?

Not directly. Google uses your title and meta description for ranking, not your OG tags. The benefit is indirect: better-looking shares earn more clicks and return visits, which can help over time.

What size should the preview image be?

1200 by 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio that works across all the major platforms. Use an absolute https:// URL, since relative paths are ignored by social crawlers.

Why isn't my preview updating after I changed the tags?

Platforms cache link previews for a day or more. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger and its "Scrape Again" option to force a fresh fetch of your page.

Where do the tags go?

In the <head> section of your page's HTML, alongside your other meta tags.
