What this tool does

This tool looks at a password and tells you how it shapes up: its length, which kinds of characters it uses, and an overall rating from too weak to strong. Type a password in and you get an instant read on it, with a Show Password toggle so you can see exactly what you are testing.

How to use it

Type or paste a password into the box, and the rating updates straight away. Tick Show Password if you want to see the characters rather than dots. There is no button to press and nothing to submit; the moment you type, you have your answer.

How it works

The tool measures the length of your password and checks whether it includes lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols, then combines those into a rating. Longer passwords using more types of character score higher. All of this runs inside your browser, so the password you type is never sent anywhere or stored, which means it is safe to test even a real one here.

What the rating can and cannot tell you

This is the honest and important part. The rating reflects the shape of your password, its length and the mix of character types, and that is a genuinely useful check. What it cannot see is predictability. A password like "Password1!" is a good length and uses all four character types, so it scores well here, yet it is one of the very first an attacker would try, because it follows an obvious pattern.

So read a strong rating as "long and varied enough," not "impossible to guess." The things a simple checker cannot catch are common words, names, keyboard runs like "qwerty," the predictable swap of "a" for "@", and passwords that have turned up in past data breaches, all of which the tools that crack passwords try first. The real protection comes from three things this rating only partly captures: make it long, make it unique to the one account, and make sure it is not a known or reused password. The most thorough checkers compare against lists of breached and common passwords for exactly this reason. If you would rather see strength as a live bar, the password strength meter shows the same idea visually, and the strong password generator makes a password that passes on every count.

Questions people ask

What does the strength rating mean?

It summarises your password's length and the variety of characters it uses, from too weak to strong. A higher rating means a longer, more varied password, which is harder to guess by brute force.

Does a "strong" rating mean my password is safe?

Not on its own. The rating measures shape, not predictability, so a common pattern can still score strong while being easy to crack. Make sure your password is also unique and not one that has appeared in a breach.

Is it safe to type my password here?

Yes. The check runs in your browser and is not submitted to EonTools. Still, for your most important accounts, the safest habit is to avoid pasting real passwords into any online page unless you are comfortable with the page and your browser environment.

How do I make a weak password stronger?

Add length first, since that helps most, and avoid predictable patterns, names, and dictionary words. A long, random password or a passphrase of several random words will rate well and genuinely be strong.
