What this does
So you want to know your own public IP address, the one the internet sees you as, along with the location and network details that come with it. This shows you, automatically. Open the page and it displays your IP and a table of related information.
How to use it
There is nothing to fill in. When the page loads, it finds your public IP address and looks up the details for you, then lists them in the table. If they do not appear, refreshing the page will try again.
How it works
Two steps happen behind the scenes when the page opens. First, it asks a service called ipify for your public IP address, the one your connection presents to the wider internet. Then it passes that address to ipapi.co, which returns the location and network information tied to it. Both of those are outside services, so your public IP is shared with them to fetch the details, which is the only way to resolve them.
The table then shows your IP alongside fields like the approximate city, region, and country, the timezone and currency for that area, and the provider and ASN behind the connection.
What your IP reveals
It is worth understanding what this is showing. Your public IP is not a secret. Every website you visit sees it, because it is the return address your requests travel with. From it, a rough location, usually city or region level, and your internet provider can be worked out, which is exactly what this page is doing. That location is an estimate, and is often the provider's area rather than your exact spot.
If your address looks different from what you expect, a couple of things are normal. A VPN or proxy will show its address instead of yours, and many connections use IPv6 now, so you may see a longer address made of letters and numbers rather than the familiar four numbers.
Questions people ask
What is a public IP address?
It is the address your connection presents to the internet, the one websites see when you visit them. It is shared among devices on your network and assigned by your provider.
Why is my IP shared with other services here?
Finding your IP and its details relies on outside services, ipify for the address and ipapi.co for the information, so your public IP is sent to them. It is already visible to every site you visit.
Why does the location not match where I am?
IP location is approximate and often reflects your provider's location rather than yours. A VPN or proxy will also change the address and the location shown.
Why is my IP full of letters?
That is an IPv6 address, the newer, longer format. Many connections use it now, so you may see it instead of the shorter four number IPv4 form.
